In your opinion, why do Porter Ridge (5) and Sun Valley (6) high schools have such low GreatSchools ratings?

In contrast, Weddington (9) and Marvin Ridge (9) are tops. Piedmont (8) and Parkwood (7) find themselves in the middle of the pack.

I'm also interested in Culbertson HS opinions since they have a "n/a" rating... presumably because it's so new?

Well, the site itself says that its rating comes from state test scores, which in NC's case would be the EOCs. Because these ratings are probably created in some office in Kalamazoo or somewhere that isn't even close to the area, I would pay more attention to the comments that people write in. Also, let your kid(s) read the comments since they would be the ones to actually attend the school. I think those measurement systems are appreciated, but they don't always tell the whole story behind a school's environment.
