My comment is based on a worldwide spectrum of experience tasting pizza, not based on Donato's/CiCi's or Domino's. I prefer thin crust pizza. I think that they can be found in a number of local pizza joints. On the other hand, I have had Donato's that was pretty descent. I can't really comment on the southside pizza joints since I live in the northern part of the county. But I am interested in this particular thread as when I see people commenting on a great pizza joint in the other part of town, I will try it out.

I used to like Palone's off Ardrey Kell, but the owner seems to always be in a rush to get you out of there so he can do other things, so me and my wife stopped going.

Luigi's isn't bad at all. Used to go there all the time before I moved.

Mario's Pizza near the Siskey YMCA. Best pizza in town IMO.

I've read that Tonys in Ballantyne is really good, but Ive never been there myself.

My favorite pizza place in Charlotte is luisa's brick oven on montford (near park road shopping center.) I haven't been there in years, so things may have changed, but it was always great the lasttime I went.

I don't know what style this is considered, but is this style of pizza available in Charlotte?

For NY style, I haven't found anything able to beat Tony's - Ballantyne. IMHO, if Tony's is a 9.9 (leaving room for improvement), some (but not all) notables are:

Hawthorne's (Elizabeth) - 9.5, good enough that if I lived uptown I likely would not drive to Tony's. Tried Carmel Rd location but for some reason didn't seem as good.
Mario's (Matthews) - 9.0 Naturally similar to Tony's as I guess you could call them 'affiliates' since Tony and Mario grew up together - see for yourself http://www.tonyspizza.org/ http://www.mariospizza.org/
Portofino's (southpark) - 9.0, but for me, it's difficult not to get their linguine/clams ....although it's been a few years since I've had it.
Lorenzo's (ardrey kell/marvin)- 9.2 Very good, but I suspected the sauce to be less tasty than Tony's. I brought a side of sauce to my table and sure enough, everyone at the table agreed. But again, it's very good.

plan to try: Luigi's

Depends on what kind of pizza you are looking for. Most people around here seem to like New York Style pizza. I don't really like that.

If you like good 'ol red sauce pizza....

Wolfman is good stuff....either as eat in or delivery. The Providence Road location has the best atmosphere for eating in.

Also, another great place that is fantastic to "eat in" is the Pizza Peel in the Cotswold area. The have wine and a great beer selection. They have always been packed when I eat there.
