Son, that is an opinion piece in the WSJ. It doesn't cite any direct sources. We have already covered this in this topic, but Medicare is not broke nor running out of money.

I am sorry, Lumbollo, but how could you have ignored info from the CBO for years predicting when Medicare is gonna run out of money????
I was writing newspaper articles in the 80s on Medicare running out of money. This is nothing new and the estimates have stayed between 2012-2030 for the last 25 years.
As far as the VA and your comments about your father's care - again - I am very glad that you and your family are pleased with the service. But long before the Gulf War, folks were complaining about denial of service, poor service, etc.
And I am astounded that you seem to know nothing about the situation at Walter Reed, with crumbling facility, mold, etc. That was widely reported.

I know about Walter Reed and agree there are problems and I never said the VA was perfect. I said that it gives good care to my Dad. I originally responding to a post that said that government run health care would be so bad that broken toes would end up as lobotomies which obviously isn't what happened at Walter Reed. Then the next post says as a matter of fact that Medicare is consuming an amount 6 times the entire GDP of the entire USA and that isn't even close to the truth.
If you guys want to believe in this kind of drama, I certainly won't stand in the way, but it just means that an honest relevant discussion isn't possible.

I don't think that is fair to lump me in with "you guys" - as I have only stated what can be documented as factual.
And I agree with you that the VA is not "all bad" and that Medicare is not "all bad" but I have never stated it is "all bad." It isn't a black and white issue. There can be problems that are very concerning without the whole system being rotten.
Are you familiar with Medicare that almost 100% of the elderly in this country use for health care? Or the VA that soldiers and veterans use? Neither program has these kinds of issues.
I am truly glad that your dad has gotten such good VA care.
However, there are two sides to every coin. I know someone who uses VA care and they have cataracts. They can't get surgery until they are too blind to drive, legally blind!! Why, if the VA KNOWS surgery is going to be needed should there be a delay in getting treatment?
There's no reason to think the same kind of issues won't continue in other government provided health care.
NCYank, the VA isn't exclusive. The party you know can go elsewhere if they don't like it. I am assuming the reason they don't is the alternatives, i.e. the private health care system, can't provide it.

So let me understand this.....one of our citizens sacrifices 23 years of their life serving in the military, including 3 tours in Vietnam and when they go to seek medical treatment, promised by their country in return for their years of service, they are told they must be BLIND before receiving treatment and your answer is...

Will that be your answer when folks in Obama Care programs can't get decent treatment? Just "go elsewhere if you don't like it"?
In the context of the either/or discussion I was having in the course of this topic it is was a valid response. If you wish to discuss the problems with specifically with the VA then I will be glad to do so.

You've already stated your position...
that your dad got good care and anyone who doesn't like the VA care can just go somewhere else. Got it.
