Neighborhood. I think the lady just happened to be getting out of the car and the suspect was riding through. Like I said HPD state this is probably the first call in the neighborhood for a "true" crime.

Our family does not venture into these red zones either in Miami or the Ft. Lauderdale area, but we know we have to be careful wherever we go.

We are moving to Ballantyne in a few weeks and we are very excited about it. Reading these types of post scares the heck out of us and all the sensationalism of the local news does not necessarily help, but we know better.

Happens in Ballantyne too. Happens everywhere, the city I just moved from Gilbert AZ, sports a low crime statistic and I lived within a mile of 5 people being murdered in a gated community, a child being murdered 1 mile from me. A girl being murdered 5 miles from me. At least 3 teens being raped right in their apt complex about 7 miles me. A man being gunned down in a beautiful residential neighborhood about 7 miles from me and Gilbert has very low crime. Google it you'll see. I'm sure I missed lots more. These crimes happened with a year and half. It's everywhere.

You have to be careful everywhere, this is what it's comes down too, self defense always.

Default not here!

Geez.. I don't l know this stuff does not happen near me at all now. This is definitely a big concern as we are moving to the CHarlotte area. I have lived in the Philly burbs all my life and nothing like this has happened in the area ever. Now if you go the bad parts of Philly then yeah murders and robbings galore but never in the neighborhoods my friends and I live in.

No crime in the Philly burbs? I'd stay there then.

MJP ... I am going to venture a guess that for some reason, you're simply unaware of it (crime in your area) at this point. Simply put, crime is EVERYWHERE. As stated already, people need to exercise caution and be aware of their surroundings. Anyone is a potential victim, at any time, any place. (Even) the suburbs of Philly are hardly a utopia.

I think in this day of age you cant be to precautious in any city of any size.
My mom lives in a city relative small that I once stayed there and I probably only saw 5 cars go by the whole day but yet she always make sure the doors and windows are locked and if she goes out of town she will even block off the driveway.

Huntersville is a relative safe area but as any city it not immune to crime and one should always be vigilant. The problem that usually happen is people get a false sense of security and usually crime will go up in the summer in the area due to people leaving windows and doors unlock on their homes and cars.

One thing that grab my attention to this area and I'm not sure if other towns are in similar situation but the neighborhoods lack street lighting. I do enjoy not having a light shining thru the window but it does set up a crime of opprotunity in the neighborhoods.

It is very important to know your neighbors and know some of them very well to the point you share phone calls or dinners with so that they know who is coming and going from your home.

I regret this incident has happen and always wonder if HPD does more than offer traffic citations but if you read huntersville herald most tickets involve traffic incidents or shoplifting at target or kohls.

Huntersville and I feel a good portion of Charlotte is relative safe and you do not see the bars on windows similar to those in LA, San Francisco or Syracuse however one shouldnt think an area will be crime free in Any Twon USA

XNYgirl will become famous soon enoughXNYgirl will become famous soon enoughXNYgirl will become famous soon enough
My comment is, first, follow the Dan Starks advice on Channel 6, Don't Be a Victim. People hang up the cell phone. I watch my belongings like a hawk. I want what's mine to stay mine. I walk with my keys in my hand ready to claw out an eye ball if needed. Ofcourse, I haven't had any crimes committed against myself or family, except for the neighbor who stole my lawn mower and told me the police mentioned it to him. However, I never filed a police report.

Second, if I was a criminal, I'm not, but if I was, I'd rob in the nice areas too. There are so many nicer things to pick then an average run of the mill. DId you ever see the reality show "It Takes a Theif" they stake out upper class neighborhoods and clean out the houses with professional theifs. It's very interesting. I would say, if it was me, I'd smash out the windows of the houses that leave the blinds and curtains open and advertise. LIke the houses on Sewlyn Ave, or near there.

There is also info on smash and grabs in car crimes. Ipods, Cell Phones, PDA's they make easy targets and resale. Just be conciencous, don't leave the lexus running at daycare with your prada purse on the front seat. Lock your doors, don't trust your neighbors, blah blah.

Sadly, in my Corporate Enviornment there are theifs that pass the criminal back ground check for their position, they steal soda's, candy bars, picture frames, IPODS's, Cell Phones etc. So, these people who steal inside the work place are more deceptive then the outsiders because they create a false safety of being safe in the work place and trusting others.

Good Luck and Lock your doors. XNYgirl doesn't leave anything open, sets her alarm and arms the car and puts the keys in between her fingers, just like hse was taught in college. Sometimes you are safer to err on the side of caution. Also, if someone was to 'follow' me home, I'd be the one having the fun, I'd take them through the worse parts of town and keep on going. Yes, I'm a sicko.

Default Definitely safe here!

Sorry guys..there is crime in some philly burbs but not in my development, the development next store, down the street in a 5 mile radius. I am well aware of crime and definitely not naive but home break in's and random crime acts do not happen here but high taxes due $12,000 on 2000 sq. ft. house that's why we are moving.
