Does anyone know where I can get some authentic Ukrainian style Pierogies? My mom and Grandmother make them and they're excellent. Though I know how to make them (They passed down the ole' family recipe) It is not worth making them if you're only making enough for one meal.
I know they sell the frozen stuff in the stores that doesn't even compare. I was wondering if there were any places around Charlotte that you have found that I can try that even serves them. Thanks in advance Last edited by MrConfigT; 05-23-2007 at 02:59 PM. Reason: Icon |

Wow, I'd love to know, too...anyone?
I am going to do Martha Stewart's recipe one weekend and freeze them, personally.... |

![]() Or are they only good when they're fresh, not frozen (even if they are frozen by you after you've made them fresh, and not by a grocery store that mass-produced them)? |

The Russian Store on Independence? They have some prepered foods on occasion, and definitely some frozen. But at least it comes from the Ukraine.

Do you have address for the Russian store on independence? I'd like to check them out even if they don't have my pierogies.
My mom always makes them a few times a year and freezes me about 10 meals of them. But there's sometimes where I run out and I'd like to share them with a friend who's never had them and I don't want to resort to Mrs. T's. Thanks for the input. If I find them anywhere I will be sure to bump this thread if its still around. |

I'll be moving to the area soon and would love to know if you find a place too. My grandmother used to make great pierogies for my grandfather, who is Hungarian, and she would always make some for rest of the family while she was at it. I agree, Mrs. T's just does not cut it, and it's pretty hard to come across a place that serves good ones, so please keep us updated on your search.

I hope you find this easy.....
2.5 cups all purpose flour 1 egg 1 teaspoon salt 3/4 - 1 cup water mix / knead in a bowl, add flour if needed to a dough like consistency rest under cover for 5 minutes knead again rest under cover for 5 minutes cut small sections out, flatten w a rolling pin (pretty thin), add your cetner (I like farmers cheese or mash potatoes), and press the ends to enclose. place on sheet until all ready bring large pot to rolling boil gently toss in - they will rise to the surface when ready (1-2 minutes) add fried onions or simply butter serve w/ sour cream |

I haven't tried them personally, but I heard they were very good at that store on Independence. Their "Bobka" was also very good.... I believe the store is on 74 westbound not too far from the BJ's.... |

Big Al's in Mooresville (I think) has them on the menu. They weren't great by any means and they told me that they are not made fresh but they weren't awful either.
