We had the same desire when we relocated here. We loved the Ballentyne area. DH is working in the the University area. We drove through Highland Creek, a lot of DH's coworkers live there. It seems nice, not really what we were looking for. We also thought if we were going to be on the North side we may as well take advantage of the lake. We rented a place in Mooresville through our relocation package for about 4 months. DH got to experience the traffic, for us we didn't hesitate buying in the Point. There is not a lot of master planned communities around and it is just lovely. As far as traffic, DH leaves for work around 6 and is to work in 40 minute hardly any traffic. However, if he waits until 6:30 it will take him an hour and a half. If I leave after 8, I am fine getting anywhere in the North, to the University area, Concord, Huntersville, etc. The High school traffic and commuters on Brawley is pretty brutal between 7 and 8. Between 5 and 7 in the evening is also the worst time coming home. On a good day his commute is 40 minutes, bad day 1-1.5 hour if he comes in those windows. We lived in Houston, Las Vegas, and Seattle all of his commutes were a lot worse then this one. so the beauty of living here, lifestyle, and the recreation has outweighed the commute. Just something to consider.

Thanks for all the responses. I was unaware there were replies. We're looking for homes in the high $300s/low $400s with at least 4 bedrooms. Amenities are very important since we've been spoiled with swim and tennis here. We really like the community layout of shopping, restaurants, and new feel of Ballantyne, but not a fan of the cookie cutter developments or the amount of apartments. Great public schools are also a high priority.
