pink caddy....I hope you're joking, but if your not you are a prime example of why we need social reform. If you are indeed an illegal you shouldn't qualify for any government assistance at the taxpayer's expense, regardless of how many children you have unfortunately brought into the world.
You jumped too quickly on the word "illegal". It's a common mistake with those that shoot from the hip and want to jump right into the pool. I said"as soon as I get MY citizenship" (ie: I might have a visa or green card)

Well things are certainly going to be worse when the federal govt defaults on its obligations. So I guess the question is whether it was alright to keep Mayberry puttering along knowing that it was being directed over a cliff or whether the local communities should've been told upfront that there wasn't any more free money and that they'd better come up with alternate funding sources?

Unfortunately, the department that is responsible for "legality" of the people does not communicate with the department of the hand-outs. A person can have SSN and ID (and still be illegal), even fake "real" green card and get all the hand-outs. Trust me it is hard to find out if the person is legal...Meanwhile taxpayers are paying and paying...

How many of these children do you pay child support for? At LEAST the three that are on welfare/food stamps I hope.

I have nine (9) children. Three different mothers. We have been in the "system" for years, but hey, it was money on the table always available, so why not? But, I'm sure you'll be happy to know all nine are not feeding off your table.
Three of them are happy with the Italian Government. In fact, my oldest daughter works for the Prime Minister. That's a wrap.
Three more are doing fine as illegals in Texas. Happy as a pig in do-do.As soon as I get my citizenship they might become legal. Not so sure that will make them happy as they are very content right now.
The youngest three, well that's another story. They live with their mother in a project in the welfare capital of the East coast. Collect rent support, food stamps, and disability. Wow, life is good for them. I'm happy for them. Yep. Did good.
You know, living on the dole is not so bad if you are enjoying life, have a little food on the table, and can sing and dance every Friday and Saturday nite. No stress. Bi-weekly check and peace of mind that our Presidente will provide for us.
So, relax, don't get stressed and if you want to share a dinner with us one weekend it would be our pleasure.

The only thing the fed did was pay off the local bills with a high interest credit card.
No, you make it seem like this is some radical shift in policy...while in reality it is simply a continuation of the previous administrations (including GWB and Clinton) As much as some might like to believe, there is no vast Socialist conspiracy going on in DC. As for the HUD's efforts to get low income folks to become homeowners, I think that it's a good idea in theory...however, the timing was really bad with the bursting of the housing bubble, and many of these first-time homeowners getting hurt.

I am presenting information that others may not be aware of - I certainly didn't know the extent of federal spending programs until I did some research, and I am sure what I have found is only a tip of the iceberg.
As far as the history of how these programs came about - really - who cares? This is now. We are out of money. Let's talk today.
I am not making an argument about anything - and certainly not about that foul "stimulus" bill.
I am not trying to convince anyone about socialism or communism or even noblesse oblige! I am simply saying - take a look at this and see what is going on. Learn. Ask questions.
If you feel good about the fiscal decisions being made in this country - then you are not going to be interested in learning how the tax dollars are being spent. If you have concerns - then do the homework and find out what is going on.
Knowing what is going on in this country is how we become informed voters - and it is also our only defense against those who are fiscally irresponsible.

Good point Leksi--I wasn't sure that people knew this. SSN and EIN (yep,EIN! )are readily available to any and all people that say they would like to pay taxes. Now, if you ask an illegal alien where do you suppose the money you're sending to the gubmint goes...the answer is I don't know. If you ask if they think there is a contribution to their account...the answer is "I think so". When you ask --how will you ever collect it when you are illegal...the answer is "I don't know".
There is a pool of money (have no idea the amount of money that is paid to the government that has nobody's name on it.
