I got on I 85 south, at exit 8 in Kings Mountain about 4 pm today. Just south of the exit, were 2 Kings Mountain City police blocking the northbound lanes. They started up & pulled away. There was a 1 1/2 mile back up. I have never seen a back up on I 85 this far out from Charlotte. Did anyone hear of something going on out here?

There was no sign of an accident.

I go to Google maps and their traffic info.

I don't know if this link will work but I looked up that exit on I-85 and it does show the live traffic flow.

Google Maps

I couldn't find where anyone I am following tweeted about traffic at that location during the time you observed the back up.

Thanks, Ani. It was very puzzling.

The police must have been there for a while to collect that big of a back-up.

The police are always there it seems.

Usually in the median in that wooded area heading southbound.

Just a good place for a speed trap.

I have been thinking about asking the state if I could set-up a donut stand there.

This was the city police & they weren't in the stand of trees. They were in the 2 northbound lanes, blocking the traffic flow.

How about a Dunkin' Donuts at exit 8, on fast food row?

Thanks, Barking. It's a possibility.

One of the reasons that I posted was incase someone picked it up on a scanner. Weirder things have happened. I guess it will have to remain one of life's mysteries.

Does Gastonia have an online police log for its newspaper?

No, but you gave me a good idea. It might show up in the Kings Mountain weekly paper.
