My boyfriend and I are looking into moving from Milwaukee, WI to Charlotte. He's a golf pro, and always works on the weekends so in the summer I like to head to the lake and layout/tan/relax to kill some time. Our lake also has a small outdoor restaurant that serves food/beverages. Is there a common place to do that in Charlotte? Do any of the surrounding lakes (Norman?) have a place where younger people (20 - 30) hang out, play vball, frisbee, etc. on the weekends? I realize it's a tiny detail about a city, but just curious! We're coming down to check out the area again in April. Thanks!!

Far as Lake Norman I know you can play Volleyball at Blythe Landing (http://www.charmeck.org/Departments/Park+and+Rec/Parks/Parks+By+Region/North+Park+Region/Blythe.htm - broken link),
Beach @ Jetton Park (http://www.charmeck.org/Departments/Park+and+Rec/Parks/Parks+By+Region/North+Park+Region/Jetton.htm - broken link)
& Mountain Island Lake they have Volleyball, horseback riding & I
like to kayak here. at Latta Plantation (http://www.charmeck.org/Departments/Park+and+Rec/Inside+the+Department/Divisions/Stewardship+Services/Nature+Preserves/Latta.htm#Amenities - broken link)
you cannot swim off the shore into the lake in Mecklenburg County
But there is a swimming hole in Troutman the north side of
Lake Norman. I havent seen Jetton but I would imagine it like
the soil in this area red clay.

If the lakes are a huge "happiness" factor for you, I'd suggest visiting the lakes here before moving. I grew up in Maine so the lake experience here is NOT the same...so please visit first and see if the beaches/parks are what you would be content with.

Unless you own a house on the lake to me it isn't the type of Lake experience that I was used to.
