Hi, I live in ATL and am considering a move to CLT and was wondering if anyone here had done the same. If so, how do you like CLT so far and what part did u move to?

I have a family with 2 small kids and want somewhere more family oriented with great schools and more affordable housing. Around 250K, with a reasonable commute to Uptown where DH will likely be working.

Would love to hear your experience and any thoughts you have on where to focus our home search....so far we are mostly considering S. CLT, but if anyone has any other ideas, we'd gladly research those also. And, how long is the commute from Waxhaw or Matthews into Uptown?

Thanks in advance!

Much slower lifestyle. Everything you need to live is just aroug the corner. Less driving around.

Matthews nice area for a family.

Can't wait! We're tired of the hustle and bustle here. Would you say that Waxhaw and Matthews have about the same commute time to Uptown as Ballantyne? Where has lower taxes?

No, Matthews would have a shorter commute time than Waxhaw for certain, and probably a bit faster than Ballantyne - though I'm not that familiar with how the traffic on Independence is heading into Uptown in the AMs. I *do* know that the 485-to-77-to-Uptown route from Ballantyne gets plenty congested during both the morning and afternoon commute windows.

Someone who lives in Matthews would have to chime in with how Independence really is on a daily basis.

Matthews to Uptown: depending on what part of Matthews. 30-45 mins.
Independence Blvd: CRAZYYYYYY.
Matthews: Mecklenburg County: High Taxes

Waxhaw to Uptown: Prov. Road soon to be 4 lanes: 30-45 mins.
Waxhaw: Union County: Taxes have gone up, but still much lower than Mecklenburg.
Waxhaw likely to be a housing investment.

I live in Matthews but I am fortunate enough to not have to take Independence. Its pretty much a parking lot at rush hour but its not bad the rest of the day. Its actually easier to take Monroe from Matthews during rush hour because there is far less traffic.

We live at the edge of Ballentyne. (Audery Kell and HWY 521) The drive can take 25 min to 45 min in rush hour. On the return trip home, we usually avoid the I-77/I-485 logjam and go down to Gold Hill Rd, then Springfield Pkwy, to Hwy 160 to 521.

I have a friend who lives in Mint Hill and she drove down Independence Blvd for 27 years. Bad traffic that is not for me.

Your commute is best if you leave by 6:30am in the morning. Everytime I go to Waxhaw I wonder why people would live so far of the beaten track. I would think the commute from Waxhaw to Uptown would be brutal regardless when Rt 16 construction is completed. At the pace of construction Rt 16 (Providence Rd) it will be 5 yrs before completion.

ZnGuy,
Where would you recommend living to have a reasonable commute to Uptown as well as good schools and an affordable home?
