The high school situation is changing (for the better) for those portions of Huntersville zoned for the new Hough High, so I wouldn't count out public high school in Huntersville anymore. Just pick your neighborhood wisely!
Oh and traffic - really not that bad. I commute to uptown every day and it takes 20-25 minutes. When there's a wreck, there are back roads. On the other hand, when I visit friends in south Charlotte after work it takes just as long, if not longer, so I don't really get the traffic comments re. the Lake Norman area.
I hope you are right about the new High School's effect. That is great news!
It takes us about 30 minutes to commute to uptown from S. Charlotte during rush hour. If your commute consistently takes 25 minutes from H'ville to uptown Charlotte, that seems reasonable to me.
I always love seeing all the moaning and groaning, which pretty much is more like whining, about Charlotte traffic. I mean, really. Have you guys been anywhere else?
Try Southern California. That is something to whine about. Or perhaps the District of Columbia.
Seriously, I think people in Charlotte whine about the traffic just to have something to whine about.

I lived in NOVA and it was horrible, then VA Beach and boy get to the tunnel at the wrong time you can be sitting for three hours You get to learn the backroads quick and then sometimes they are jammed too.
From my experience related to traffic... The key difference is that there is a shorter rush "hour". In metros like NYC you'll deal with extra traffic from 3-7pm, whereas in Charlotte you'll get it from 4-6pm. At peak, I think Charlotte funneling up 77 to Huntersville will compare with just about any metro. You just can time your commute around it much easier.
I used to commute into Uptown from Mooresville (10 or so miles North of Huntersville) and work a 10am-6pm day. Unless there was an accident, it actually was pretty easy driving at those times.
I would love to see what criteria they used and which other Charlotte suburbs they looked at. I don't see why Huntersville would be any better than some other suburbs, but maybe I'm missing something.
Not sure what's happening with the curfew for under 18s at Northlake mall on friday/saturday evenings .
It's a nice mall and if H'ville is so great what's the issue?
Also perturbed by some other things I heard about.
Are kids/people coming in from elsewhere to cause probs ?
I would agree that it seems more diverse than Mooresville, at least the West side of Mooresville, and that should be a good thing?

Other malls I know have the same curfew. Which I believe is a good thing because I would not have my under 18 kid at the mall at all hours of the night. Some parents do not care or have limits and other people have to do their jobs and put up with the behavior. Unless they have a job in the mall there is no reason for them to be "hanging" out there after certain hours. So my point is having a curfew is not a bad thing.

"Affordable" - that's the list... Some don't consider Mooresville a Charlotte suburb - it's certainly not one according to Iredell county. Even then, I wouldn't put Mooresville in any top affordable category (even the East side). Certainly not the West side where it's still overpriced by alot - you pay for the lake.
I really dislike these lists because of the fuzzy criteria and selection process... There's countless areas in the Charlotte metro area that are nice and affordable.
