My pre-construction house won't be ready until next year and currently all of my items are in storage with the movers. They are going to start charging me $323/mo and seeing that I won't have a house for another 9 months or so, that really adds up! I am thinking about having them simply move my things into a public storage facility (but then I have to pay for two moves) which should be at least $100/month cheaper (plus I have access to some things that I need). The other option is to simply move everything into my home garage for free. How important is it to have a climate controlled environment for furniture? I would bring the really nice things into the house (electronics) but how would wood and fabric furniture do without a/c in the summer and heat in the winter?

I'd be very careful abotu storing things in a garage. My wife and I were living in an apt while our house was being built. Like you said, we brought all of the electronics and a loveseat into the apt. We then wrapped everything else up in plastic and put a product that we bought at Lowes in the unit to absorb moisture.
Well, it turned out that they don't fumigate or treat the garages for pests and one day my wife went into the garage for something and it was overridden with MICE. The MICE had set up shop in the couch and chewed the pillows and material all to high heaven and apparantly had little MICE in the process because they were all over the couch which wound up having to be thrown out. Storage Units may be more expensive, but they are a lot safer. Good Luck!!! |

Wow, mice never even occurred to me! I was just worried about moisture! Thanks for warning me about that. Hmmm...now I'm thinking I should just sell all my furniture off and start all over. Apart from a few choice items that I would definitely keep, I could probably live without my furniture. It's probably about time that I simplified my life anyway :-).
Are garage sales a big thing in Charlotte? |

If I were to have a garage sale in Huntersville, how should I advertise?

What newspaper do you guys get? Charlotte Observer? I would do your largest newspaper and Craigslist (you can advertise garage sales there). Then just plant a few signs around the nieghboorhood the night before etc.
