What was the name of the restaurant on Independence Blvd, not far from Albemarle Road (if I'm remembering correctly?). It had dark green awnings and lots of windows, and was *wonderful*. It was there 'til the late '80s, I think. It seems like it closed, then someone (a family member of original owner?) tried to reopen it, and it didn't do so well, so closed permanently.

For some reason, I'm thinking Dillards, but I know that's not right!

Help a gal out, willya? My brain's been going in circles!

What kind of food did they serve? Can you describe it in any more detail?

Ha, oh, gosh... I think just very nice American food, like broiled fish, pasta, etc. I only went there a few times - it was one of the first "nice" restaurants I went to. Don't know what made me think of it - and, of course, now I can't stop trying to figure it out!

Darryl's

There was one on Hwy 51 near Pineville. I think where Outback is now located. It was like an Applebee's with really long wait times....

That was a long way from Albemarle and Independence. There was in fact a Darryls much closer to this location right on Albemarle Rd, just north of Sharon Amity.

I tend to go with Dikadees as well. The restaurant the OP is speaking of was there for a long time and was considered relatively upscale for the time. I seem to remember that something a bit scandalous happened that brought a quick end to it, but it's been so long ago, that I don't remember the details now. I don't know if it was related to the current Dikadee's Deli or not.

I was thinking of Darryl's when the OP described the building having lots of windows and awnings.

It was Dikadee's Front Porch.
They used to advertise on WBT.

Mullman - Dikadee's Front Porch! I couldn't remember the 'front porch' part! I seem to remember they had the most horrible commercials....

Yes! That's it! phew Thanks.

I worked at Darryl's, on Albemarle - not like Dikadee's at all! Dikadee's deli uses the same logo as Dikadee's Front Porch did - I bet there's a connection there somewhere.
