Default Piedmont Row - review???

Hi all. I'm coming down next week from NYC to search for condo areas.. As many of you know, I don't drive so I'm looking for a walkable community. The walkscore at Piedmont Row looks good, but is it really true?? The condo complex has everything I am looking for but wanted to know is it really walkable (or busable) to grocery, bank, drugstore, and Southpark mall/phillips plaza??
Also, is there anything over there I should be aware of: bad HOA, crime, sewage plant, or anything else. You can PM me if you do not want to post here.....

Thanks!!!!!!

You're a ways from the sewage plant there, so I would *think* you're alright.

Yes, should be pretty darn walkable - of all the things you listed, the furthest away would be a grocery store, but there is a HUGE Harris Teeter just on the other side of Southpark Mall (gotta be less than 1.5 miles away). There is a drug store (Rite Aid?) in the southwest corner of the Soutpark Mall parking lot, there is at least 1 bank right on Barclay Downs, LOTS of places to eat all over that immediate area, etc.

Ohmygosh, that's a really nice complex! You will likely love the area. You'll have to walk about a mile to get to the grocery, but like Hooligan said, it's a really nice one and worth the walk. You can get to so much you need in that area - restaurants, the mall, bookstores, movies, churches ect... Not to mention, you'll love being so close to the symphony summer concert series that happens at the bandshell and pavillion behind South Park Mall. Oh, and there are great fireworks there on the 4th of July!

Very nice beautiful community...and yes...for the high price...you get the sewage (less that a mile away) smell for free!

It is not as bad as it use to be...but come out of South Park on the right night with the wind blowing that direction and...GROSS!

You won't smell the sewage plant at all at Piedmont Row! I have lived within 2 miles of the sewage plant for almost 50 years and have a family member that lives at Piedmont Row - if you could smell it he wouldn't be living there. I have never smelled the sewer plant when I was at Southpark - a few blocks west (towards Southgate on Fairview) is a different story!

I think Piedmont Row is a nice, safe complex. Lots of (expensive) eats around there. There is a small YMCA on site. Southpark Mall is an easy walk. The Harris Teeter is a little far to walk (with groceries) for me. Don't know much about the HOA.

Good luck! You should be able to get a great deal on a unit there!

NOT TRUE.

I have worked directly beside Piedmont Row for the last 7+ years and have never, ever smelled the sewage plant anywhere close to peidmont town center.

The Harris Express YMCA gym is right there too. Its my favorite of the gyms in the area. Very small but not usually busy and it has everything I need.

They have good free outdoor concerts in the spring and summer right there too. Very cool place.

my friends who moved from nyc actually lived in peidmont row for a year before they bought their place. its a nice place and they loved it.

are you renting a condo from someone or buying?

because if you are only renting and dont mind renting from apartment communities, i can suggest other communities with a higher walk score and cheaper rent.

piedmont row is expensive, ofcourse it offers its amenities and luxury and the building is new. But, its Charlotte and rent is very economical compared to nyc
if are used to slightly older bldgs in nyc, and wanna a save, there are other apartments/condos in around the same area.

Have you looked at Phillps Ct Apartments/Condos?
Governor Morrisson Apartments and Condos?
The Residence at Southpark Apartments and Condos?

All the 3 above are walkable and IMO more accessible to Harris Teeter (grocery) and restaurants than Piedmont Row and are new and upscale just like Piedmont Row.

There are other apartment communities I can suggest, so let me know. Goodluck!
