If your budget was $800k for a home, where would you live in or around Charlotte? Working in Uptown with frequent airport travel. Build a home, Lake Norman/ Wylie, South Charlotte, Ballantyne, Union County? So many options! We are a young, professional family from the Northeast and Europe. Lots of traveling in our family- looking for communities with dynamic, active, and well educated people. Thanks in advance for your replies- greatly appreciated!

I would say Ballantyne Country Club. You should be able to find a house for close to your budget. It is located in a very affluent area of Charlotte. I, personally, live on Lake Wylie and wouldn't move anywhere else, but it lacks a sense of community. Just my two cents.

Do you care about resale? Any chance you will have to sell in the next 5-10 years?

If you don't care about resale you can pick anywhere. If you do - I would stay inside Hwy #51. The closer to Uptown the better.

I agree with Native Son - would sacrifice home size to live in these city neighborhoods which also have good schools.

If kids education is in the future and you consider public schools, I would look in South Charlotte for higher end neighborhoods that go to Providence HS and/or Ardrey Kell HS.

Myers Park, Dilworth or Elizabeth. Maybe Cotswold. Maybe eastover. Nothing further out.

Myers Park is an excellent high school too.
