i recently moved to the charlotte area myself so i don't know much about the different school districts but a good start for you would be the Weddington School District, in Union County. there are some great neighborhoods in that area and top rated schools.

Have you looked at the Gates at Waterside crossing? Lincoln County schools are award-winning on a national level. It's also close to a great Charter school and very affordable private Christian Academy.

I think the Ballantyne or Providence area is the best area to raise a family. They have good schools, low crime and all the amenities you need. They also have a concert every weekend in each neighborhood's town center.

Union County.... Somerset, Hunter Oaks, the Reserve....all of these neighborhoods go to very good schools. And they are all neighborhoods filled with families. The proximity to Charlotte is unbeatable, the shopping is tremendous and people are very friendly. I believe that now is the time to jump in, because pricing for new and existing homes is definitely going up.
It took us 7 months of intense research before we made the final decision to move from NJ to Union County, NC. We are VERY happy that we ended up in this area.
Get in touch with south.charlotte&union. She's a realtor on this forum and REALLY knows her stuff. If you want her contact info, just PM me. As stated on another thread, I don't take recommendations lightly, but she truly is wonderful.

MYERS PARK, MYERS PARK, MYERS PARK.
EASTOVER, EASTOVER, EASTOVER.
(if you can afford it.)
Old neighborhoods, something a Bostonian would appreciate. Its where true old money Charlotte lives.
Do some research & you'll see what I mean.

If they are willing to send their children to private schools....no offense.
