I sometimes think that the law is in favor of criminals. Check this news article out. Charlotte Observer | 06/07/2007 | Stanley man charged in teen's shooting (http://www.charlotte.com/breaking_news/story/151148.html - broken link)

This man was protecting his property and he was charged with attempted murder. Thats is crazy. What ever happened to a right to bear arms and to protect your family and property? Thats crazy for the justice system to charged this man. What was he supposed to do. I feel no pity for this young criminal. He got what he deserved. This innocent tax paying citizen now had to pay for bail, now pay a lawyer and court fees. Where is the justice for the taxpayer? the young criminal broke into his vehicle? What do you all think.

I don't think the punishment for breaking into someone's car should be potential death (and this is a teen for god's sake). I'm no fan of crime, just don't feel that this car thief posed a significant physical threat to the shooter (the worst thing that could have happened to the person who's car was stolen is he would have had to file an insurance claim and had his car replaced). I actually think the shooter should be put in jail for a longer period than the car thief.

I have to agree with this. The law (and common sense) dictate that you can only shoot at someone in self defense if yours or a loved ones life is in peril. Not the case here unless there is something I am missing.

The test to justify using a firearm is imminent danger...the old man was not in imminent danger...

AND the old man ran after the kid and shot at him...thats not OK.

I think the old man deserves to be charged...

So does the kid from the sound of it.

I agree that he shouldnt had tried to kill him but I do believe in protecting your property. I understand the insurance claim but that man was robbed twice and he was probably angry and fed up in which I can understand his anger. I feel that tax paying citizen shouldnt had been charged since the boy lived. However that should be a lesson learned for that boy. I know he is a teen but he is also a criminal and you all know that the NC goverment system will have him back in the streets and his crimes will escallade. At the time that man wasnt worried or didnt know if he was a teen or not. I personally feel that the american goverment system is too lient and they favor the criminals too much. Bottom line that young punk had no business stealing another mans property and he is lucky and hopefully he would had learn from this.

That old man was protecting his property and he had a right to shoot that young punk. One, that boy trespassed; Two, he attempted robbery. Sounds like that man should be called the neighborhood hero.

Are you kidding. No offense but you are supporting that fact that the homeowner should had yielded to the criminal and not defend his property. You sound like the crooked justice system. You wont be saying that if some young punk tried to run off with your nice car.

That old man was frustrated due to a prior brake in. I would had done the same thing if it was my baby in the yard and some punk tried to mess with it. Thats the problem with this country now.
