whenever there is something negative regardless of topic, someone always has to blame it on a new yorker or surrounding area. i am fairly new to this forum but i have to say i have been disgusted on all these negative comments time and time again.

yes, there are rude and arrogant people from up north (unfortunately give the rest of us a bad name), but there are rude and arrogant people from everywhere - you need to judge the person, not where they come from.

i have lived in different states over the years, and as much as i love living here, my most unsettling encounters have occurred mostly in this state. don't get me wrong, i have met some wonderful people here as well. just because i have had a few bad experiences, i don't go around saying all southern people are rude, no, i judge the individual.

if you traveled overseas, you will find out very quickly that you are looked at as an american, or when asked, you respond your from the states not that your southern or a yankee.

we all live in the united states, all races and nationalities. america is a melting pot. so all you bigots out there - stop bashing the northerners. we are a great bunch of people.

so please, think twice on who your offending the next time you post so loosely about us dam yankees

Southern chauvinism has a long history. I find if it's used seriously, it's a defense mechanism by an insecure person. Other times, though, it might just be a good-natured attempt to "bust chops" if you will. Either way, just try to laugh it off.

Excellent post, also, welcome to North Carolina! I'm a native NC'er but most of my friends in recent years have been northern transplants. People always bash norhterners for being rude and arrogant, but I'm noticing that southern hospitality isn't all that is cracked up to be. A lot of my northern friends often tell me about how backstabbing a lot of southerners can be, and I've seen it myself. A lot of southerners will grin up in your face, then talk down on you behind your back. I myself like people who are honest and direct with you instead of people who are fake and phony. Once again, excellent post!

I will give you that. Many Southerners make an art out of being passive aggressive ... bless their hearts.

hmmm...be sure to report a post you think might be offensive to the mods, they'll remove it if it is. I can honestly say I haven't noticed this happening AT ALL in a long time around here.

Most of us regulars know better than to air our frustrations with our new northern neighbors here, lol!

Come on loves... you secretly love us!

I hope.

I'll second your comment either way... I think the forum has been very tame of late (vs. previous history here) with regard to transplant bashing.

Oh, I really do! Thanks to you I know what a bagel is (unfortunately, as my doctor says I have to stop eating them and I'm addicted!)

Not only that . . . Southerners (born either in NC or in another Southern state) make up only 1/3 of the residents in Charlotte. Other than my family and friends from childhood/college . . . nearly every friend I have made since moving back to Charlotte in 2002 has moved here - and most have moved here from New Jersey/New York.

My friends tell me (the newcomers) that they have basically been treated with a lot of enthusiasm from others here - and they enjoy being active and involved their neighborhoods, schools, church parishes, etc.

Charlotte is no longer a Southern city. It is a city located in the South. Newcomers have a lot more chance of running into others from the area where they moved than they do with running into natives.

Hahahaha as a transplant from the north my southern friends told me I can say anything to anyone as long as I add bless their heart to it.... sort of like special dispensation. Bless your heart.

I have seen it on this board were certain posts can be taken as being a northern or a southern thing. A taxes comment recently was identified by us people that want what we had for services in the North and somehow it is our fault.

Northerners and Southerners really doesn't matter to me. I just try to be the best human being I can to all

I think it goes both ways for that kind of talk. I've heard northerner and southerner bashing. I honestly don't care where the person is from. Although if I look at the people I tend to get along with, they are usually from the north.

At the same time, a neighbor across the street told me a few weeks ago, when I asked them if they would mind lowering the volume of their music at 9:30 pm, that they are a New Yorker and will do whatever the hell they want and us southerners will just have to deal with it, no one can boss him around. Yes I know they have till 10, I just don't like knocking on people's doors that late and figured I should ask them instead of jumping straight to the cops. What a lovely neighbor. I know not all northerners are like that, that he is more just an @ss than a northerner. Its people like him that give northerners a bad name.
