Moderator cut: tos violation . They are absolutely NOT chiggers (duh), they are not pill bugs (anybody ever see a red pillbug with black legs???) and they are not ants.

What they are is Box Elder Bug nymphs.

A picture could be worth a thousand words. Until you post one, all you'll get is guesses!! (Box Elder Bug nymphs are solid red with black legs.)

Im afraid to tell you but most likely boxelders. they hatch out by the thousands when you get (and you have) AN INFESTATION. Bad news is they are almost inposible to get rid of but the good news is they do very little damage to plants and dont stay around long except they do stink if stepped on....Most likey you brought them in with some pine needles or contaminated mulch ..
