So if you watched the news last night or today you have seen they are giving lay off notices today to over 500 teachers, does anyone know how this process works? Do they give notices to teachers in the school or do you get something in the mail? And if they give it to you at school, I assume they do it at the end of the day?

We should dip into the lottery funds to keep this from happening. A big deal was made about how those funds will help education, but the current allowable uses for them are ludicrous when teachers are being laid off.

It's like saving money for new furniture but losing your home because you won't touch that money to pay the mortgage.

Today the teachers were to find out if they had a job next year. With 4 weeks of school left the teachers who are fired may just leave and not even finish the year. Who will finish the grades and end of the year work. A teacher fired with plenty of sick days or personal leave days can leave and there would be nothing the school system could do.

I would hope that any teacher that chose to go this route would never teach again. It's not the childrens fault they are being laid off yet they would be the ones most impacted by this action.

Sorry to hear that. At least the timing isn't as bad as it could be.
