HI my friend and i are moving from michigan down to nc
she has a job in charlotte me in winstom can anyone recommend a city in between the two we are 26 african american and would like a suburb but not a really small city
neither 1 of us has kids so our main things are diversity, crime, nightlife for single people
if we have to live in charlotte or closer to winston which one is better but we would prefer to live in the middle thanks for all the help

Salisbury would work - I-85 can be a nightmare, but hey, that's the price one pays without commuter transportation. One of you'd go 85N the other 85S

Salisbury is about as middle of road as you can get for diverse city.
Interstate 85 isnt as problematic as above poster stated due to they just finish widening it between salisbury and concord nc.
The only bottleneck spot is the 85 bridge between salisbury and lexington but there is several back roads into winston salem from salisbury 601 to 801 and highway 150 takes u right into winston.
Salisbury has some cute restaurants and good selection of chain restaurants but I wouldnt expect much in the nightlife. Residents tend to go to winston or charlotte for their nightlife and come back and enjoy there simpler way of living.
If I had to move there I wuold choose a rural location or location near high rock lake. Avoid areas close to Spencer it can get very sketchy.

I think Crescent Resources ( a developer) is building a new subdivision in Troutman (??). Go to crescent-resources.com. They build nice S/D's and I think that is in between WS & Charlotte. Don't know how much is going on there, though. You could always try Mooresville or Cornelius - near Lake Norman. That would be closer to Charlotte, and probably 45-60 minutes from WS, but there is a lot going up there. Good luck!!

Not much goes on in Concord unless you're a big NASCAR fan. You really can't compare Charlotte to Salisbury. Charlotte is much more developed in terms of shopping, restaurants, arts, etc. than Salisbury is. I would definitely not consider Salisbury to be a big city!! Charlotte and WS are probably about the same in terms of affordability. WS might be slightly less expensive - I'm not too sure.

Statesville. There are great homes right downtown (historic) at excellent prices and its really quiet and nice. I know, I was in the same situation long ago....
