Wow..last week we bought some cupcakes from D & D in Ballentyne and they were absolutely delicious. Had the Red Velvet and it was out of this world. Bought some back for my neighbor and didn't see him for days (sugar coma) A little more pricey ($3.75) than the cupcake place in Blakeney, but well worth it. They ran out and I bought some from SAS and was not impressed at all. Although it is a cute store.
wdavid - never had the cupcakes from D&D but anything I have gotten from them to munch on has been great. Good coffee too.
D & D has some yummy stuff there..agreed. And $3.75 is not outrageous for a cupcake. It was about $3.00 in SAS and they were nothing to write home about. I have paid $5.00 a cupcake in NY Westhampton for my nieces baby shower. So depends on quality I think D &D is worth every dime. IMHO.
Dean & Deluca rocks....cupcakes and everything else too!!
I am sad that the store that was opened here at Lake did
not make it and closed. Don't get to Ballantyne or Southpark
much to stop.
With Charlotte/Mecklenburg taxes, these cupcakes cost $48.94/dozen. At those prices, I hope that Mary Jane baked them because otherwise, there is nothing about flour, eggs, sugar and grease that should cost this much.
Just as a side note, D&D went out of business at The Peninsula at Lake Norman. Even the people in that very well heeled neighborhood had their limits in what is considered luxurious vs outrageous. IMO, I agree with them in that D&D is highly over rated.

When having Thanksgiving dinner with my "adopted" family the standing requirement is that I'm to bring a couple pies. Usually they came from The Fresh Market or Pie Safe. One year I procrastinated and was left with D&D as the only better option. Two pies for ~$55 IIRC. They were good but weren't significantly better than what I'd previously gotten for about half the $$$ at the Pie Safe.
I had a mock panic attack at dessert when one of my friends dropped a big crumb of pie on the floor. "WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?!?!?!?! THAT'S $3 WORTH OF PIE YOU DROPPED!!!!!!!!!! PICK IT UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUP!!!!!!!!
I think Dean and Deluca is a great "treat myself" place or nice place to meet someone for a coffee or lunch. It's not a place that I would frequent alot because of the prices, but I don't mind paying more for a special treat - and I think their cupcakes are pretty good! (Better than SAS, who ONLY do cupcakes - and in my opinion, don't get it right)
I had an almond cupcake yesterday at D&D, and it was delicious. Yum!
