What about Beer, I haven't noticed a big difference in beer prices, both domestic or micro/import, but I haven't done a thorough study either. Anyone know for sure?

I lived in Steele Creek the past year and didn't bother driving an extra 10 minutes each way to save $2.00 since my tank is small.
I also noticed the BP near Rivergate, and also the Exxon across from Rivergate has some of the best prices in the area, only about 12 cents or so above the prices at The Gate in Fort Mill.

I never buy booze in NC, but should do a comparison I guess. Can anyone chime in on the alcohol savings?

I am moving to Fort Mill this Saturday so it won't matter any more though.

Fuel taxes in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Federal tax at 18.4 cents per gallon
Totals
NC 48.6
SC 35.2

It follows that state taxes then are:
NC 30.2
SC 16.8

Therefore we should see a difference of ~ 13/14 cents by going to SC.

Sunday, the difference was ten cents. 2.76 at Rivergate BP, 2.66 at the gas station (Texaco?) at which I filled up. The other SC stations in the same stretch were at 2.67 or 2.68.

Default Do the Math

I did some math to see whether it is worth going to SC or not.
Average difference in gas price: 14 cents/gallon
Average car capacity: 15 gallons . So in filling up a car will save $ 2.10
Average car mileage : 21
The saving will help you commute 10 miles.
So if you live beyond 5 miles from state line don't bother to buy from SC unless you just want to ' feel good'.
I have not even factored in the time.

I have not done a formal comparison, but have noticed (with liquor at least) that less expensive stuff (anything that usually goes for about $10 or less per bottle) is about the same price in NC vs. Frugals. I start seeing the cost be a few bucks less in SC when you are looking at stuff that is $18-$20 or more per bottle.

From memory, as an example, Maker's Mark (750mL):

ABC on S. Tryon by 485 - $26.95
Frugal MacDoogal's - $22.95

That's a ~17% increase, in that instance. That margin likely varies on what you're buying.

Beer isn't much cheaper, from my recollections.

I drove up 77 to Virginia near WV last week to get my Popeyes fix and found gas was almost 15 cents a gallon cheaper.
