I know I can never be considered a real Southerner but there should be some sort of honorary designation for us Yanks who move to the South and really make it our home. I mean, I've lived in Southern states for nearly 20 years. I say y'all instead of y'ins, I like grits and moderately sweet tea (that's the best I can do, lol), I know to always cheer for Jr., chiggers and ticks don't freak me out anymore, my kids have been mutton bustin'. All of that should count for something.

This weekend DD and I stumbled upon an event that I think is point worthy. Spindale NC held their Dairy Goat Festival, Pagent and Parade on Saturday. We went out of curiosity but had a good time. We learned a bit about dairy goats and what it takes to raise and show them...which is apparently serious business in Spindale. Also, who knew that dairy goats will tolerate being dressed in costume and paraded about town?

Of course, we couldn't leave without getting some goat's milk fudge and a t-shirt (which is most hysterical!!).

OK, so boiled peanuts make me gag and I won't mow the lawn while wearing a tube top (no matter how hot it gets in August), but come on....a couple of points for attending the goat festival seems fair.

I'd give ya the points, Yank, but I'm a Yankee too. Honestly you should get big points for that. I'd lay money that not a soul from Kings Mountain went, native or transplant.

You were a yinzer?

I guess the question is how long do you have to be around here to be considered a "native"?

That is right up there with The Pageland Watermelon Festival. They have a beauty pageant and even name a Watermelon Queen.

Being from upstate NY myself, I was always told that

People who came from the north to visit and went back were: "Yankees"
People from the north who came and stayed were: "Damn Yankees!"
