As we prepare to celebrate Memorial Day, I hope everyone will take a moment to remember the reason for the holiday. American men and women continue to make the ultimate sacrifice while we enjoy our barbecues, beer, pools and races. On Monday, take a second to say a prayer for the safety of the people who defend our way of life.
I pray the citizens of Cabarrus County line the streets as this fallen hero comes home. Only the passing of time can dull the pain and sorrow this family is experiencing, but how wonderful it would be for them to know we are truly a grateful nation.
To all the men and women that serve or have served our country. Thank you. The many sacrifices for us that you make without hesitation for this country makes me proud to be an American. I saw a video on you tube by Oliver North that says it all. Link below regardless of anyone"s political belief it's about being an American. National Rifle Association - Give Thanks

What a sad reminder of why we celebrate this holiday!
Thanks for posting.
May he rest in peace and God grant comfort to his family.
The city of Harrisburg will come to a stand still today to allow her citizens to pay respect to Spc Christopher Barton, as he is transported to McEwen Funeral Home, for tomorrow night's visitation. Spc Barton will arrive at the Concord Airport at approximately 9:20 this morning. From there, he will receive an escort from both the Sheriff's Department and the North Carolina Patriot Guard Riders. He will pass through the length of Harrisburg. Harrisburg schools will recess to allow the students to pay honors. Spc Barton will then be transported to Mint Hill, for tomorrow's visitation. The funeral will be Saturday morning, with interment at the Presbyterian Cemetary at the intersection of Hwy 49 and Morehead, in Harrisburg.
It is certainly easy, in our busy lives, to take things for granted, One thing we should never forget is the sacrifice our soldiers make to defend that which we hold so dear. Today presents the opportunity for us to honor one of those soldiers. My hope is, if you are able, you will find a piece of real estate in Harrisburg, and let this fine soldier's family know that the people of this community truly are grateful. Rest in Peace, Spc Barton.
For those that are so inclined, please show your respects for Spc Barton by attending the funeral procession on Saturday in Mint Hill and Matthews.

I also hear there may be some protestors making their presence as well. I hope that is nothing more than a rumor.
