My condolences to you & your family. Your grandfather sounded like a wonderful man & very much loved by his family.

I'm glad that everything worked out.
We had a kid in our High School band who was an excellent trumpet player. He was hired by our local VFW hall as the bugler for many occasions. For others in this predicament, try contacting your local HS and talk to the band director. Maybe he/she can point you in the right direction.

I know what you mean. My dad was 89 when he died last year. He would never talk about the war. His generation just didn't do that.
I was so proud of him when the honor guard and bugler came out to honor him on the day of his burial.
When the young soldier handed me the coffin draped flag that he and another soldier folded while the bugler played "taps" looked me straight in the eyes and saluted me, I almost fell to my knees. I was only able to remain standing because of the strength my pride gave to me.
I saw a whole different side of my father that day. A side he chose to keep private and close to his heart. Our country, however, refused to let him go without recognizing the sacrifice he gave for our country and treated him with a dignity and respect you could only appreciate if you were on the giving or receiving end of it.
God bless our veterans and God bless your grandpa. I'm glad he got the burial he deserved. I'm sure you will keep him alive in your memories and honor him by telling all his favorite stories to your children.

My condolences on the loss of your grandfather. Although I never met him, I thank him for bravely serving our country. You have earned every right to be very proud of him.
