I got the 'ol drivers license squared away. I now need to register a vehicle.

My question is, do they require proof of residency(utility, etc)?

I ask because it does not appear that you need anything, other than your NC drivers license, title and various DMV forms(according to NCDMV website).

Your NC driver's license is your proof of residency.

Nope - that's it. One of the forms needs to be notarized, but I recall the place I recently got my tags would notarize it for you on the spot for an extra $5.

Also - like with your license, they will only take cash or a check drawn on a local (state?) bank - no credit cards for some odd reason. If you are going to pay by cash, make sure you find out what the total amount of the taxes and fees will be.

Which form needs to be notatrized. Boy they make you jump through hoops. I have never in all the states I have lived in need a form notarized. I have moved three times since 9/11

Crazy that they won't even take debit cards. My wife renewed her licence 2 weeks ago and had to go to an ATM due to them only wanting cash or check. I mean it is 2010, get with the times already.

Ran into the same problem. I had cash, but I was misinformed on the amount needed, so I had to go across the street, get more cash, and then go back and wait in line again. It is kind of silly.

I know, it's ridiculous. What business does not have the ability to take plastic these days? Come on!

Such a simple upgrade too.

Thank you.

I'm figuring on $218.00 total. I'll bring more than that though, just in case they want to go deeper into my pockets

If you take a brief drive outside of Meck. County - chances are you will be out the door a lot sooner.
