oops! Sorry I thought I put that in my post. We bought it at Lowes. It's this one: http://www.lowes.com/pd_262510-53-34917032_0_?productId=3041453&Ntt=security%20storm %20door&Ntk=i_products&pl=1¤tURL=/pl__0__s?newSearch=true$Ntt=security%20storm%20doo r$y=0$x=0
I forgot to mention it came with a break-in warranty; I think it's something like $100. It's double paned laminated safety glass and locks into the door frame in three places. It was super easy (for my handy husband) to install in a couple of hours.
Crime is up all over. Make me wonder if we should own a gun???
EVERYONE should be able to protect themselves and there loved ones. It should not even be a question. Get yourself proper training in handling and firing a gun first. After that, maintain you proficiency by going to a shooting range at least once a month.
Just remember this, someone kicks your door in at 3am, you must get to your phone, call 911 AND wait for the police to get to you. This could take up to 30 minutes. Bad guys in your home can get to you and your family within seconds. I'm just saying.......
I would make it look like I wasnt there and then sit in the dark WITH A SHOTGUN and wait.....The shotgun is to be sure they wait till the cops come.. Standing or lying down makes no difference.
There is a neighborhood watch program in place. Wonder what is going on.
If it's anything like my neighborhood watch, what does it really do? It's not like you have neighbors patrolling the neighborhood at all hours of the day. Ours, which is through the CMPD is basically an "e-mail tree" where the person who is head of the Watch e-mails alerts to the people who signed up for the list. As President of our HOA it is very hard to get people to engage and actually sign up for these type of things so basically we have a few signs at the entrance to our neighbrohood and that's about it.
CMPD has 2 officers assigned to the Watch program and they send alerts out to the point people.
I think it boils down to neighbors watching out for neighbors. If you see something suspicious call the police.
I live in the Ayrsley subdivision in South Charlotte. On the 11th, my house alarm went off at 3:40am when someone tried to break into my second floor patio. Thankfully the alarm scared off the potential intruder and the police came quickly. When I sent out an email to the other Ryan townhome residents I found out the same night, another home was broken into at midnight. So definitely everyone be on alert!
