I am going to be moving from Richmond for a job and want to live in a comfortable area like I did in Richmond... where there is a mix of different types of people and not totally homogeneous

Rent is not a issue as I am in a very good profession (1000-2500) range

I have just been reading about this city and heard there this place might be uppity and uptight

I just want to feel comfortable where I live.. Where are good communities to live in? Apartments? Town homes?....Are there high rise apartments in the area?

How is living in downtown area?

Anywhere near UVA will have lots of diversity. Saw no one commented on this, so I thought I'd say something. And most apartment buildings/complexes will be diverse. Downtown living I feel is geared more to locals and not students, so probably more 50/50 black/white.

Actually certain apartment complexes in the UVA area are dominated by international students of one or two nationalities, which represents a narrow income, cultural, and age demographic, so it will take a bit more research that that to find a place that is truly diverse.
