Hi!

I'm a 26yr old female possibly moving to Charlottesville for work in the next couple of months. I'm starting to look at places to live but I don't know anything about the city. What neighborhoods or areas are recommended to look at? I'm single and pretty active. I enjoy outdoor activities, going to the gym, and trying new restaurants/bars. I like to be social, but don't want to be right in the middle of student life, as I am a few years older.

Any helpful directions would be great!

Pretty much anywhere in town sounds like it would suit you, except for right around the university. There are some ghetto areas to avoid as well. What area will you be working in? That might help with a recommendation.

The kids tend to live and congregate near the area called "The Corner" as well as neighborhoods off Jefferson Park Ave. There are less students if you live further up Emmet St / US 29 or near Downtown or Belmont. I feel like as a young adult there is more stuff to do if you live near Downtown. There's a lot there in terms of restaurants, bars, entertainment, and even a couple of parks and walking/biking trails. The poorer areas are the neighborhoods between the Corner and Downtown, to the north and south of Main St., might not be the best place to live.
