During my upcoming visit, I have a hotel booked right on Rt 29 and all the hotels in the area are completely booked during the time of my visit. It's a Fairfield Inn...looks OK but not super great but I could be wrong. My main concern is that it is going to be full of guests, noise, etc. - not sure what is going on in C-ville during this time other than foot ball game on the weekend and fall foliage.

Anyway, I found a Hampton Inn in Waynesboro, same price and it seemed like it would be much quieter to stay there, even with a 30 minute drive into town which is where I will be most of the time. But I've realized that I'm going to have to go up/down/thru this Rockgap/Afton Mountain every morning and early evening (when I will be tired), so I'm hoping I can get some advise on how difficult a drive this would be every day during my trip. Thanks!

As long as there is no fog and it's not pouring down rain, the drive is easy. Rt. 250 is an alternate route if you don't want to use I-64.

Enjoy your trip!

The drive is no problem unless there is unusual weather.

I commuted between Charlottesville and Staunton for eight years and rarely had a problem. Many times was when I was dead tired after work and I never careened off the mountain. I wouldn't worry about it. And it's a beautiful drive.
