We will be in Charlottesville next weekend for a UVA dr. appt. Arriving Friday evening (10th), leaving Tuesday (14th). Please share your favorite area activities for kids 5-8.
I'm tentatively planning on Monticello and a day trip over to Massanutten Water Park. That will probably be in Monday to avoid the festival/weekend crowd.
I used to live in the valley 10 years ago and am excited for them to see the beautiful countryside and horse farms. Are there any horse shows/races going on that weekend?
Are there any wineries that offer a kid-friendly tour including stomping grapes?
Thanks!

If you go to the water park I'd probably plan on that taking up the whole day pretty much, won't leave much time for other things it sounds like, but that is the best thing for kids that age. A lot of the pumpkin patches are opening this weekend, and there are always wineries, they are everywhere. Not sure about the kid friendly part, I never bring kids along. Massanutten might be doing the foliage tours on the ski lifts too by then, that's really neat.

I'm not from the Charlottesville area, but I've been to Monticello, and I'd have a hard time recommending it for kids in that age range. The water park sounds fun, and my family always enjoys apple picking at Carter Mountain Orchard.
