Thumbs up HIXON top 10 B.W. Mag ranking

Business Week Mag just had a "BEST SUBURB" in the SOUTH ranking and HIXON (North CHattanooga) made the tOP ten. Farragut, Tn (outside Knoxville) and Franklin ,Tn (OutsideNashville) were in the top 20.

Criteria were jobs, low living cost, crime rate, school scores.

Hmmmmmm.....Hixson, huh? We were thinking the north side of the city to buy, so we will have to check it out some more when we get there. I am not sure Jon ever made it to Hixson when he visited....We have plenty of time while we are renting to figure it out!

Go TN with three suburbs in the top 20!

Hixson and North Chattanooga are good places to live... I was born and raised in Chattanooga and have lived in East Ridge, Brainerd (currently), Hixson, and the Red Bank areas, and of all of them, I would have to say that Hixson and East Brainerd are my favorites with East Brainerd at the top of the list. Growth is rampant in both Hixson and East Brainerd with Hixson expanding towards Soddy Daisy and East Brainerd growing toward Ooltewah, which is booming.... I think there are over 3,000 new homes planned for Ooltewah in the next couple of years.

We'll be renting over by Red Bank when we get there and we'll figure the rest out later! My husband said the area over by Hamilton Place mall in E. Brainard area is crazy with traffic. He also felt Ooltewah had crazy traffic issues.

We are so looking forward to our move at the end of August!

Hixson has really changed in the last 15 years too. I would have definitely agreed it was great when I lived there ten+ years ago but the last few times I passed through, traffic was getting ugly and 153 was covered in 2x as many strip malls. Still probably nice but I'd dig past the article.

Default Cleveland

Would Cleveland be considered a suburb of Chatt and how would you compare it to Hixon, Ooltewah, & Collegedale. Looking for lots next week between 411 and Parksvile Lake. Any info?
Thanks,
Ironwood

I would not consider Cleveland a suburb of Chattanooga, although it's in the Chattanooga regional area... It will take about 40-45 minutes to get to downtown Chattanooga from Cleveland minus any traffic you might run into once you get into Chattanooga. Hixson is and has been growing quite a lot for some time, but the next big boom area is the Ooltewah area. Ooltewah is probably a good midpoint between downtown Chattanooga and Cleveland as far as distance and is experiencing a building boom in both retail and housing. It's a very popular area for people relocating to the area. Collegedale borders Ooltewah and is also a nice area. My recommendation for anyone thinking of moving to the area would be to check out the East Brainerd, Ooltewah, and Hixson areas for sure.

Yes and that is true considering the crime rate and school scores.... there arent many greatjobs in Hixson though.

I can def understand why Farragut and Franklin made the list!!!

I used to live in Hixson. It was a nice area back then (1980, 1981) but I've been back since then and I've always thought it seemed so spread out down the Hixson Pike area toward Daisy Dallas Road. I lived on Gadd and worked on Shallowford at the RC Cola Plant, and that didn't seem like a bad drive, but the traffic now when we've been there to take the kids to see the sites in Chattanooga seems even more packed.

Hixson is where the ex is....so I was VERY glad to leave it, but it is a nice little town.

TNNative, I agree. Hixson is just so busy now. I was raised in Hixson and the growth is out of this world! We lived off of Hamill Rd and actually rode our bikes on it and walked to the little store by the railroad tracks to buy candy. Not anymore. It is a nice area with good schools though.
