Chattanooga, TN (East Brainerd: for sale, house insurance, crime)

I am just posting here.. hopefully to get some feedback.

I am from Tampa Bay , Florida

Looking to move to Chattanooga..

I have a Black Wife and mixed kids.

Just wondering how this city is with mixed relations.

And what the good area's are ??

Good Elementary Schools???

How is the job market??

Overall just a breif summary of this city..

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

We just moved north side of CHAT 5 weeks ago from East central FLA. Great city, tak warm this summer 95 degrees last 5 weeks. Area very CHURCH Family activity. Culture / cluB INTEREST, LOTS OF RECREATION. City majority of MEDICAL employment. Many companies now have HQ's here. New roads, etc. North side has beter house value for $ , Soddy Daisy new about $140K , ridge or water front over $ 500 k, so all about view. House insurance 30 % of my Melbourne renewal ppolicy. Car insurance about half of Fla. Food tax higher than Fla. All people very hellpful. Again CHURCH interest here very high.

I have been looking on Realtor.com and have seen really nice houses for sale , for half the price they are asking in Florida.

Chattanooga is one of the worst places to relocate to. You asked about how the locals feel about mixed realtions, well they will look at you like you are from another planet. chattanooga and Tennessee in general come in at the bottom of any list you can find about good things. They rank nearly last in education, health, money almost anything. There are jobs but they are low paying. The schools are very bad exept over the border in Georgia. The income is higher in Georgia as well. There is no income tax in Tennessee but Chattanooga has nearly a 10% sales tax. The property tax in the area is also on the rise. You don't see a murder every night but compared to its population crime is very high, one of the worst in the country. There are very few places open late, many places closed from 2pm-5pm. There are lots of mountains but no lakes. There are several rivers in the area. It is a nice place to visit and there is very little traffic. There is always open parking spaces downtown. Despite the little traffic the drivers are bad. No turn signals, lots of accidents, DUI, and sometimes there is a mile of space in between you and the next car but people will always cut directly in front of you with no warning. I hope this info helps. I moved here a few years ago and I can't wait to leave.

Split, thanks for the write up. Did you guys look in the Brainerd/East Brainerd area? Is it good? Would appreciate any comments.
