I will be relocating to Chattanooga 31 July with my 8 year old son. I have seen a lot of post but nothing that fits my situation. I will be working in E. Chattanooga as an Army recruiter, but I think I read somewhere that it was not the best area to live in. I need an area that is family friendly, excellent schools, and recreational sports because my son plays baseball and basketball. All input would be GREATLY appreciated.

What do you mean by "E. Chattanooga"? Immediately east of downtown isn't the best area, but go farther east and it gets better again.

I'd try Ooltewah, Apison, or Highway 58 north of Lake.

You should search the Chattanooga forum for certain phrases like "good neighborhoods", "good schools", etc. These sorts of questions come up a lot, and sometimes "the regulars" don't answer them all. Hopefully a search will give you more information so you can ask about specific neighborhoods or areas. Good luck.

Just saw your post and don't know if you're already here in Chattanooga or not. As a recruiter, what military facility are you working with? There is a new facility being built on Bonny Oaks Drive which is in the vicinity of the new VW plant and other new industry. That area is close to all level schools, water recreation, shopping, eating establishments, Chattanooga State, airport, etc. The Chattanoogan online newspaper www.chattanoogan.com will help in finding housing, as well as, www.timesfreepress.com. Hope things go o.k. for you in the move. We've lived here for 36 years and love it. Thought we would only be here for 4 years to finish college but.................
