How safe is it for someone to walk the riverfront area in Chattanooga at night? Also, is there alot for families to do in downtown Chattanooga?

I have been down there after dark (around the river where the aquarium is) and I felt safe...didn't see anything scary going on. That was just one experience though, but it seemed well lit, and there were lots of people going out up in the downtown area as well.

Anjoe we live here and frequent downtown often. We cross the walking bridge over the river from either side both during the day and after dark and have not had any issues. We spend ALOT of time downtown at the aquarium in the waterplay area out front, ride the free shuttles around, hang out at the ChooChoo, Coolidge Park and the skate park. It's very family friendly. However I have to warn you that the icee vendors charge a FORTUNE! So watch the wallet

Downtown Chatt is very safe, family oriented and there is lots to walk around and see... Imax theater, lots of dining, the Creative Discovery Museum...

and you can walk the bridge and see the River and Southern Belle at night.
