Talking Jasper information Please?!

Hello all...We got a job offer!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to move now! We love Chattanooga but the job is in Jasper. We don't know anything about the area and I have been having a hard time finding any real information about the town on the computer. Does anyone have any info or personal experience about the surrounding areas? We need a family friendly area with things for the kids to do but we don't want to be too far from work either, any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Mia - Here is a COC for Marion County which includes the town of Jasper...

Marion County Chamber of Commerce

Click on links of interest and also Marion County Area events. There are a number of posters that actually live in the area, but I am just a wannabe. You might also try posting under the Tennessee forum to get more info, as it appears the Chattanooga forum gets less posts. Just don't post the same questions, but try different ones on your interests and what you are looking for. My two cents.

Good luck. Grizz

Mia we go over there a couple of times a year. It appears to be small town America literally. Where everyone knows your name and your business Jasper is situated close to the river so you all can enjoy some water play. We recently attended 4th of July there (on the 7th) and had a blast! Dunking booths, cake walks, music, baseball and softball and rides in the power board's bucket truck lol Property there should be cheaper but rising as the development is coming that way. You guys are getting there just in time.

Congratulations on the job! When I googled Jasper and Signal Mountain it came up as 33 miles and 39 minutes. Looks, on the map, like there are some other communities around there to look at closer than Signal Mountain.

Congrats! We will be moving in 44 days to Chattanooga and I can't wait!

Default Rt 28 valley.

M.M. Future "HALFBACK" like others . Jasper is just inside "Central Time zone" and maybe up/down rt#28 valley is more affordable opportunity.
'Rarity Bay"(?) new waterfront dev , with Dirt going for $one million / acre at Nick-a-jack lake / river, or half acre $500k Jasper next growth area along I-24. South Pittsburg near by. Signal mtn UP on the plateau may get to be a daily grind with family taxi........................[/IMG]

Sounds like something out of a movie, you know the kind that make it look so welcome and inviting but you know that it is a movie because you have never seen something like it in real life.

I have gathered that Signal Mountain is quite expensive and not too convenient to travel to Jasper from. How about Monteagle? Ever been around there? Spoke with a realtor in the area and they are helping me find a place. They say it is more convenient to Jasper so any help is greatly appreciated, we will be moving quickly as my husbands new job needs him soon.

So funny but my child grouped up with another to play some games at that fair and I kept listening for the child's name and thinking that I had misunderstood. NOPE! The child's name was Chevy LOL Yes it can be picturesque for sure but remember all those old grannies smilin' on the porch watched to see what time your hubby came home last night ROFL!

About real estate... I gather there is nothing in Jasper that strikes your fancy? The closest areas I can find are South Pittsburg, Dunlap, and places like that. Try listings for Marion and Sequatchi County as well as Hamilton, that might help a bit. Monteagle is close and very pretty but I am not sure I would be wanting to go up and down that mtn in the winter.

Thanks so much for the advice it is greatly appreciated...it has been so long since I had to worry about winter that I didn't even think about it being a pain to travel in. I spoke with a few people in the area and they advised me about Whitwell and Kimball so I think we may have found a spot;now to find our house

We camp at the Marion County Park often. We love the area around Jasper. We live about 45 min away in NW Georgia. You are about 20 min to downtown Chattanooga and about 30-35 min. to Hamilton Place Mall. There is an Ingles and a Shop Rite grocery store in Jasper. I can locate a Walmart either direction within 10 min. Jasper has scenic views, waterways and what appears to be reasonably priced land. Tiftonia is nearby I believe as well. It has some newer housing developments. Jasper is central time zone and Chattanooga, Signal Mountain is eastern time zone. It could be annoying to be constantly keeping track. I know we have trouble with this when camping there. Friends want to meet us to ski but you forget to check which time zone they mean..... good luck.
