If anybody is in Chattanooga this coming holiday weekend. Pops on the River is a HUGE, FREE event at Coolidge Park. The Chattanooga Symphony performs and fireworks to follow. Bring your chairs, blankets and coolers. BIG FUN!

Any suggestions from locals on best time to get there, best viewing spot, and/or parking suggestions? Would love to hear from experience how to make it a great night!

Wish I had seen this earlier. We watched from the Walnut St Bridge. Great spot to view!

No worries, I posted it last minute. Things couldn't have gone better last night. For those of you who may go next year, here's my experience. We have little ones, so sitting for hours ahead of time in the heat was not really an option (been there, done that). We didn't get down there until about 8:30pm. Didn't drive around looking for parking just parked in the first parking lot we found at Walnut St. and 3rd for $3. We walked about 5-10 minutes (approximately 5-6 blocks) and sat on the lawn between the two aquarium buildings. There was plenty of room for the kids to run around before the fireworks and we were directly across from where they were shooting them off. Great view. Fireworks were great until the end. Our group felt they didn't have a big finally - they just seemed to end abruptly. Short walk back to the car, and traffic moved very quickly so we were home fast.

Last year we went to Collegedale fireworks. Got there way ahead of time and staked out a spot. It was miserable sitting in the heat, but the fireworks were better than downtown (IMHO). The worst thing though was that it took us an hour (no kidding) just to get out of this big parking lot we parked in. Traffic was a nightmare. So, my only there is be careful where you park.

Not sure where we'll choose to go next year....
