I agree with SPLIT, as a lifelong Chattanoogan, Chester Frost area sounds like it is perfect for your family. I've also enjoyed the beach and camping there. Also, a nice area to look into is Lakesite, not far from Chester Frost, beautiful community and I have lots of friends who live in that area and love it. You are a little further out from the artsy people, who generally get incentives for downtown living, BUT, there are some great places downtown to rent out art space if so needed. Chattanooga has a great art scene, just google , you'll find the stories and areas.

Hope you come to Chattanooga and enjoy the outdoors! PS...hangliding is pretty big here and can become addictive. If you get bored in this town, you are boring to begin with LOL.

My other suggestion would be to get on a mailing list with a realtor. You can set your max price and areas you want to live. You would be amazed at the homes available and the prices that otherwise you would never know about.

Hope the rain is gone when you get here, or else you will think you came to Seattle, LOL

Ah hanggliding. I wish I could do more of it. This year has just been absolutely terrible for weather. Ugh.

lawd, i could start a hanggliding thread. Once i tried it a few years back, i was completely addicted. The most surreal feeling ever! My teenage son at the time was terrified of heights, so we did the training day. He's still saving to get his certification so he can buy his own equipment, LOL
