Possible Relocation - need advice
Hi,
I just found out I may have to transfer to my jobs Chattanooga location. If this happens, it will be quick, in a few weeks or so. I currently live in Nashville but I am originally from Johnson City. I am excited to get back in East Tn.
However, I have not been to Chattnooga since the 4th grade on a field trip to the Aquarium!! lol I know nothing about this city.
My biggest concern is living in a safe neighborhood. I live alone so that is my 1st priority. I will be working near the hamilton mall off gunbarrel road.
The advice I need is:
Where are good apartments, price isnt really an issue, I'd prefer to keep it under $1000 (i am used to Nashville's outrageous rents).
What is morning/evening traffic like? (it takes me 45 mins to drive 11 miles now to work now)
What good gyms are there and what is the monthy rate? I saw Rush fitness was there but could not find the pricing.
Where can I look for safe, nice apartments that are semi-close to work if the traffic is horrible?
I know this sounds crazy, but I did apartment searches and found some nice ones but the rent was so cheap (500-600 for nice 2-3 bedrooms) that I assumed I was looking in a bad neighborhood, othewise it would be more. Maybe I'm wrong???
Any help is appreciated, this is a last minute decision from my bosses at work. I have read alot of good things about the city, and it will put me closer to my family so I am excited to move there.
Thank you for taking the time to help me!!!

I lived in some decent apartments on East Brainerd road which is off I-75 and intersects Gunbarrel Rd. The rent was $875 for 2 bedrooms, and I think 1 bedroom is about $700? They're called Creekside Village, and they're about 2 years old and gated, although it's not difficult to get in. Safety was not an issue there.
There's two more gated apartments on Gunbarrel and Shallowford Rd. Carriage Parc and Shallowford Trace, and they're around the price range I mentioned. But check out non-gated apartments in the area because I think the safety is practically the same. Don't worry about prices because I don't think it reflects safety. Chattanooga is just not as expensive as some areas in the SE region.
I'm thinking of joining the Rush and there rates were a little cheaper than Sports Barn. I was with the Sports Barn for 1 yr and loved it. I cancelled because I got so busy at work, and so I might go back. Dunno yet.

My husband pays $39 per month at the Rush. It is an additional $19 for my membership. The gym is pretty well-equipped. They don't offer very many classes if you are into that sort of thing.

Chattanooga is great
I have been here for about 5 years now and absolutely love it. I understand living alone i did that for a year here and never once did i feel unsafe. Apartment complexes are a dime a dozen and the rent here is much cheaper than Nashville.
The one apartment Complex you should try to avoid is Hamilton Place. I have never worked with such awful management. And the apartments are only okay, and not very sound proof...
There is a really nice complex on Jenkins road. They keep the apartments up really well and are fast in fixing any problem if one arises.
There are several great places to work out. Ive worked out at several of them. The rush has nice equipment. Im not as crazy about the environment. Im currently at the sports barn even though it is slightly more expensive its well worth it. plus they have racket ball courts and lots of classes, plus you can reserve a machine, pool lane or court and be guaranteed not to have to wait. If you do go with the rush their prices are not set. If you barter you can end up with a pretty good rate.
Well good luck!
