Please Post A Photo!!!!
Some discussion on various forums here in Jacksonville, FL , the result of a recent trip to Chattanooga and cool ideas from the downtown revival. Anyway, several folks thought Chattanooga only had TERMINAL STATION or the current CHOO CHOO as a train station. I argued that I remember when they tore down the Louisville and Nashville (formerly Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Railroad) UNION STATION in downtown. I remember it was smaller but I always thought even more cool then the Terminal Station.
Does ANYONE have photos or know how to get access to photos of UNION STATION in Chattanooga? Could you post a few? Could you send me the links? university or archives photos would be cool too. PLEASE let me know how to find them. If I see another Terminal Station or Choo Choo picture I think my hair is going to fall out. So how about it Chattanooga? Let's see old Union Station! ???
Please send to:
lightrailjax@gmail.com
Thank you!

Union Station
Thanks for the photo and the links. It didn't look the way I remember, but I saw it from the SE? corner? It had a big neon sign that said "Union Station" as I recall, and the wrecking ball was at work in the back of the building. I snapped some photos, but I guess they are lost in my collection.
Do you know if the building was modernized anytime? I wonder if the track and building plans survive somewhere? State or city archives... As I recall, it wasn't nearly as big as Terminal Station (Choo Choo) but was about the most ideal smaller station that I ever saw.
You can always find me over at Jacksonville, Florida, saying something about RAIL, TRANSIT or history, under the name OCKLAWAHA (Ock - LA - wa - HA) Seminole for "Muddy" or "Muddy River".
I'm shopping for these smaller station plans as we develop regional and local rail services. Georgia is onboard, and Florida is slowly building the new track and buildings, If Tennessee were to join in, we could see a return of Nashville-Chattanooga-Atlanta-Macon-Jacksonville-(Orlando) Tampa or Jacksonville (Daytona Beach) Miami train service.
Anyone else wants to get involved, please join in and POST something... I'd love to hear from you. Meanwhile you might enjoy...

You know, we can't even get the LONG proposed high speed rail from Chattanooga to Atlanta or maybe even Chicago to Atlanta via Chattanooga. For a rail town, we 'noogans love our cars lol My family members have been hard core rail fans for 40+ years, one of us even taking a passenger train trip out to Oregon. Good luck to you in your endeavors! Oh yes, your links were great
Here's a cute one for YOU:
Ocklawaha Valley Railroad - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
When you say smaller station plans do you mean stations to build? Have you seen the station @ Spring City TN? It's now the Chamber of Commerce and recently beautifully restored. If I were to build a home it would look JUST like that. Here's the only link I could find with a photo:
RailPictures.Net Photo » Union Pacific EMD SD70M
This is a great link by the way. Be warned you may spend MANY hours on this one lol

Ocklawaha Valley Railroad
Oh, you discovered where my "name" comes from... Not only is it a very endangered river, but it is also one of the most unusual railroad history's ever!
I sent most of the Wikipedia information in to them... I have an old site on Webspawners but the photo link doesn't work, so recently I moved it to .ning
Check it out at:

Yes, the stations are to build, but maybe not here. I would love to see a newer version of the old Union Station type facilities rise again in some of our Cities. Another use for the track plans and prints is the construction of Light Rail which is really modern interurban. Those folks back in 1900 REALLY knew how to move people and trains without the benefit of a lot of hi-tech toys. Trains Magazine reprinted the famous textbook "Passenger Terminals and Trains" by John Droege, in 1916, and re-released in 1969. It's about the closest thing to a look back at how it was done, that I've ever found.
Thanks again, your photos sure help the effort.

Thanks for the Choo Choo
Thanks for the Choo Choo information, I didn't know Holiday Inn got it. My REAL interest as a railroad planner (specialty in getting passenger trains, commuter and Light Rail back up and running) is the smaller major terminals.
Not the side of the track little town depots or the giants like Terminal Station in Chattanooga (Choo Choo) complex, or Jacksonville Terminal here in Florida.
I really have a desire to chase down the hows and workings of the smaller "large" stations, such as Chattanooga Union Station, Savannah's Georgia Railroad Station, or old Augusta Union Station... of the three only Savannah's survives.
ANYONE that has photos of these 6 to 10 track stations, maps, diagrams, floor plans etc... PLEASE contact me.

Thanks Again
