I have compiled a POI list for TomTom of MOST of the Chattanooga Cameras. I need some better information as to Red Bank, Signal Mtn, and possibly others. I have all of the ones mentioned in this thread if anyone is interested in the file. Simply set it to warn you 1500 or so feet from that POI and set off an alarm... Could save you a few bucks.

I have used data compiled from this forum, as well, as notes when I drive around (I do computer service work for a 100 mile radius)... and use the online tool that is provided by TomTom (actually a third party tool), it then compiles a .OVL file, and I can easily tell you how to treat your TomTom like a USB memory device, upload the file to it... and SHAZAMM... a automatic camera warning device....
I did find that 1500' is a little too far, and annoying... I set it back to 800'
Email me at CircuitSorcerer {at} bellsouth {dot} net, and I will be glad to send you a copy of the file... I just added two new redlight cams that they snuck in on us... ALL are Chattanooga, Tennessee so far... any information on other cities with lat and long, would be appreciated, and I will gladly add your info to my (our) database!!!!!!
Hey.. if it saves you $50, then it was worth my time to endeavor this little project!
Take care!

One other note: Chattanooga is using a mobile camera system situated in a WHITE VAN with Louvered windows out the LEFT SIDE. They almost always angle this thing at a 45-degree angle with the butt-end out most towards the road, on the shoulder... If you approach this thing from the rear, and you are speeding... SLOW DOWN HARD... it only "See's" at the angle in sort of front of it... hint hint...

I am new to Chatt and love it here. Seeing camera's here makes me more comfortable in many ways. For one, I'm tired of waiting my turn to go because 5 or 6 cars are still going through the red light. Two, these camera's have done wonders to fight crime and find criminals. Severals murders have been solved in my town due to camera's. I personally have nothing to worry about, so if you're not breaking the law, then why does it bother anyone. There's a BIG difference between a camera in public to watch for law breakers, and a camera in one's personal home. One camera is on my husband's way to work, if it makes him slow down and saves one person from an accident, especially him, then I am all for camera's.

While I can agree that if you are not breaking the law, then you have nothing to worry about (Wholeheartedly, I am a Security Professional that installs cameras for a living for both Government and Private Industry, NOT traffic cameras)...
I feel that the ability to "tweek" the settings on these little computers on the traffic cams might prove a little too tempting, and sometimes if you are caught in traffic, the only way to make a left turn is to pull out into the intersection, and get "purposely" caught in the middle to make a turn when all traffic stops... let's face it... not all drivers are courteous, especially some of those in their big ole honking SUVS... (I drive a subcompact most of the time) ... Frankly I do not like being bullied, and simply will not take it ... but that is not the point ..
The point is if you are 1/10 of a sec too late in making your decision, you are fined.
That is wrong. Humans drive the cars... not machines. We as humans make errors. Until there comes a time where the machines make the decisions, I will tend to favor human error. You have done it. I have done it. We both will make mistakes again, and I love your humanity for that! It's how we learn.
By having a warning device, you might just be a little more cautious (playing Devil's advocate)... so actually your argument may be correct to an extent, perhaps we could find a way to have both the technologies make us all safer? That is my intent... and to save us money from misguided programmers / politicians. If it makes one person a little more alert, and perhaps causes that person to err on the side of caution, and avoids an accident... is that wrong?
I in NO way advocate breaking the law, EVER. Technology can be our friend, or our enemy... The choice is up to the user .
Who knows? Ideas? Comments?
BTW - I have now added as many of the RED BANK cameras that I could find.to my POI file, as of today. Signal Mountain is next. if anyone is interested in it, or how to load it to your GPS, contact me... As always... yes it is free to anyone wanting to get it and install it (I will give you instructions, and possibly convert to other formats than TomTom... just ask)

I am using POI EDITOR to make the files
So here it is:
-85.27792, 35.10006, "Hixson Pike Speed Cam #1"
-85.28089, 35.09755, "Hixson Pike Speed Cam #2"

-85.31272, 35.04609, "ML King and Pine St Ramp Red LightCam"
-85.23944, 35.12314, "Hwy 153 and Hammil Road Red Light Cam"
-85.24876, 35.14186, "Hwy 153 and Gadd Road Red Light Cam"
-85.27969, 35.01795, "4'th Ave and 23'd St Red Light Cam"
-85.25184, 35.01429, "Gemantown and I-24 Speed Cam"
-85.31781, 35.08399, "Hwy 27 and 127 Red Light Cam"
-85.28961, 35.1198, "Hwy 27 and Morrison Springs Red Light Cam"
-85.28798, 35.12156, "Ashland Terr and Hwy 27 Red Light Cam"
Hmm... the translation came out pretty good... there you go!
Any contributions to the list would be appreciated! Perhaps we can get Knoxville, Nashville, and Huntsville Ala interested??? I bet Atlanta is HUGE! Are there in in Gatlinburg or other points in the Smokeys?
