Hi All:

I am hoping to get some input on relocating. I am a single mom of 2 boys ages 7 & 14, to be completely honest I need a change! I currently live in IL and I HATE it! I have been working as a bartender for the last 14yrs, I love the mountains and being around trees. I am not really into the "big" cities I almost never go into Chicago unless I have to go to airport so I was hoping to find a town that is reasonably priced BUT also safe! Ideally my budget would be around 1000/month for rent. If anyone has any thoughts on where to look or NOT to look please share, I am really hoping to move this summer when kids finish school. I am checking into several different areas in hopes to narrow down my search.
Thank you

well you have figured out you don't have to compete for limited housing in Asheville so that is a huge step in the right direction.

There is a search feature on the upper right for discussions about schools.

Roanoke is another city that is right up against the mountains.

Chattanooga probably has what you're looking for... your budget would probably get you a 1-bedroom in Hixson (Northpoint) or East Brainerd. If you are single, I wouldn't think about going out much farther than those areas. Ooltewah has a few bar/restaurants, but it's mostly suburban. I think you'd actually go downtown in a smaller city much more than you currently do in Chicago. Fortunately, Chattanooga is relatively compact.
