Thunder Enterprises buys land in Marion County
Chattanooga Times Free Press | Thunder Enterprises buys land in Marion
That's a lot of land. 8,800 acres smack on the Plateau with views of Lake Nickajack.
“We’ll study a lot of different options,” (what the plans are for the land purchased) the Chattanooga real estate developer said. “It’s too premature at this point.”
Mr. Thornton said the land is on the plateau and side of Jasper Mountain near Kimball, Tenn.
“Marion County is one of the most beautiful parts of the country,” Mr. Thornton said.

Round II
G.B. This is at least Round #2 since I been here. Anything Residental is actually a wIN - wIN for a region. Round I was the same person acquire large tract, same region, then Trade some with TVA for their waterfront access. Became the Rarity location out there. Public hearing / comment took lot of heat from KIN who gave up land in past to TVA. Believe large tracts not in their supply anymore, but stated no more waterfront developed.
. Bowater has been selling large tracts also to the state, etc with changing world lumber / recycle needs. Only a few agencies have the $$$ to pursue large parcels. The MINERAL (ROCK) miners have taken heat for stripping parcels down, so take your pick of neighbors.

I couldn't agree more with you Split. Responsible development of this area will enhance the area for all that reside. I understand the other land owners not wanting to see taxes go up, but if this region is going to grow(and there is no stopping it - it's beautiful and convenient to Chattanooga), it is better to embrace it and regulate it.
I've spoken with Diana Chance at Marion County Planning, the Road Superintendant John Graham, and Skip Skotte at the Division of Groundwater. These are residents of the county that have a hand in how things are being done, and they have nothing to gain by rubber stamping projects. We need to work with them to shape this area properly so it does not become what so many left behind in fForida, New Jersey, etc. Put in the roads, the power, and all of these new families and retirees, will need grocery stores, will need services, places to work, and to play. I saw Rarity while down there and the roads are in, paved, and the amenities are going in. I could never afford it, but congrats to those that can. It definitely beats a mining operation, IMO.
I agree that in time, this will be a win/win for the region.

PINE BLIGHT , prior logging tracts.
GANG: Will try attach a very common scene of Raw Land where the Pine Blight and remains of prior logging all over the Tenn valley. Bowater was a large lumber/Paper company supplier logging company. A few years ago there was another outbreak of Pine Blight, like a cotton Boo Weavel (?) Soggy rotting telephone pole lugs clog acres all over the mtn ridges. Hard for anyone to even walk thru these woods.
Yes the state has bought sections for the Cumberland 305 mile linear park , and places where a few waterfalls would expand state park overlooks. A large developer is only resource to clean out hundreds of acres.
Have not been to this exact plateau section, but IMO some sort of residental Sky Park,/ glider airport/ fly in, is something not around this area yet. Ocala, Fla has this trend ,John Travalta, even up near Greeneville/Tuscalum , Tenn. We were in Catskill Ny area, New Paltz/ Wurtzboro that had the mtn top / glider park, very scenic. , or a resort hotel.

PS. Many neighbors say a "Black Walnut" tree is a HOt Ticket ($$$) on your property to sell, not pay to have cut / removed.
