Ross Chapin Architects...Projects Amazing communities they have planned. I LOVE Danielson Grove. Shared courtyard, mature TREES *gasp*. Looks like the kinda place where I would want to live. Maybe we could get more money with the "Americana" feel that it has lol |

The tree thing drives me absolutely CRAZY!!! Why do they think they need to cut every tree down to develop an area. Why do I want to move into a house with no trees and only little saplings, that may provide some shade in 10-20 years???? Seriously, does anyone know why so many developers cut all the trees down when they build? Is it more economical, or just a pain to work around the beautiful trees?

The Stringer's Ridge Development would be a traffic nightmare, an environmental disaster, and an absolute blight to the area. Too many condos have already been built on the Northshore - many will sit empty because the market is flooded and dreadfully slow. One cannot even see the river from Frazier Ave. anymore. Not to sound like a wet blanket, but Chattanooga needs to put the reigns on some of the development. The North Shore area is losing its character. North Chattanooga was my neighborhood for 10 years, and is still my favorite area. Kudos to the city council and regional planning for keeping the 6 story hotel out of Coolidge Park, but I think they're going to allow this massive Stringer's Ridge Development because they want the tax revenue. Shame on them. For more info, check out the articles, opinions, and pictures on Chattanoogan.com. I feel very strongly about this, can you tell?

From what I have read, the developers intend to cut 30' off the top of the ridge and use the soil to fill the ravines so that they can put more homes there. This alters drainage significantly and displaces wildlife. The spokesman for the developers gives the impression that the consequences will be dealt with later. He's not even providing any argument that they will not be creating these problems. Plus, there is the Civil War history. It just seems disrespectful to completely change the face of the ridge. City councilwoman Linda Bennett lives on that ridge and would be directly affected. Even she seems on the fence about it. I have met her, and she seems like a really intelligent and very nice lady. However, I am surprised she isn't more outspoken about this. I feel like the city council and regional planning keep postponing a final decision, just waiting for the developers to make a better case for themselves. I am not opposed to a couple of dozen homes being built, with responsible site prep. But this proposed development is raping the land. Don't we care more about our earth these days?
I hope I don't sound like an overbearing treehugger who won't recognize two sides to an argument. I'm not anti-new construction, just a proponent of responsible development. |

Wish they'd stop razing the ridges & hills around here just to build more. Did I read somewhere that the top of Cameron Hill was sheared off to make way for the new BCBS HQ?

YUP! That's a fact Jack. We did enjoy the superdooper high crane action though. Urban sprawl is an amazing thing *nodding* They shoulda built the darned condos up there. I mean how great a view is that?

If you look at old pictures of Cameron Hill, before the apartments were built, the shape of it perfectly mimicked a smaller Lookout Mountain (when viewed from the North Shore). It was beautiful. The top of the hill was cut off to infill for Interstate 27. Then came the apartments, and now the hill was cut down even more for the BCBS complex.
