We are strongly considering relocation to the area and have visited. We are interested in decent public high schools for our 2 kids (currently in jr high).

Although the high school gets good marks, we were not very impressed with Signal Mtn area when we were there as the neighborhood was to tight, twisty, and cramped. My wife doesn't want the commute from the ridge.

So...it seams like the next best area to look for a safe neighborhood would be in the Ooltewah area yes? We really would like to be at/near Enterprise South Nature Preserve for after-work cycling and hiking. Depending on the street location there, our kids would either go to Ooltewah High or Central High. Should one be avoided over the other? I would like to hear locals' thoughts on these schools.

Also we are open to other areas in the Chattanooga area that have safe streets with homes around 200k and decent high schools. It seems like the public schools there just are not very good in general (on paper at least)? We are wide open for recommendations. We really don't want to private school if possible.

Thank you!

If moving to the area, I would personally prefer Ooltewah over Central. Ooltewah High School has a much better record than Central, despite the recent headlines with the basketball team. Another option would be to look in the East Brainerd area at East Hamilton High School. Parts of the East Hamilton school district are still fairly close to Enterprise South (10-15 minutes or so).

Thank you. I was able to see some school rankings and East Hamilton seems pretty equivalent to Ooltewah. Still looking at neighborhoods and streets (flatter areas with sidewalks hopefully), not finding much but still looking.
