The job situation is showing promise. My husband should be interviewing for a position within the next week. Nobody responded to my first post on the forum about GA/TN taxes. Should I word it different? Are there any problems associated with living in TN and working in GA? We have already decided on living in the Chattanooga area, knowing there was a possibility of him working in northern GA. And the current job opening he is interviewing for is in GA. So we need to know fairly quickly so we can make good decisions. I've been reading thru all the previous posts and have seen the tax question answered both ways, so we are confused. I have learned a lot of other good informations though! Thanks.

IMO .. live in TN (no income tax) if you do work in GA it is not a problem, you just file and get it back. But I suggest you shop in GA since your going to be there anyway working. They have lower sales tax and their gas prices are typically a few cents per gallon cheaper too.

Just my opionion....

Thanks, Chattanooga Girl for your input.

I've been trying to read thru alot of the older posts on here to get some more information on the area before we get there.

I do have a couple of questions that I didn't see addressed. (I easily could have missed it, there are still a bunch of posts I haven't read). My husband loves to fish, is the TN River the only place to fish? Are there any lakes around? What kind of fish are out there to catch?

What species of birds are in the area? I'm hoping to see alot of the birds I used to feed when I lived in the Asheville/Hendersonville area of NC. Any bluebirds, woodpeckers, nuthatches, tufted titmouse, etc.? Here in TX, we are lucky to see a pair of cardinals and bluejays in the same day.

We have woodpeckers in our east brainerd neighborhood. Again, taxes are generally dependent on where you reside, thus the various "tests" on tax returns such as "have not lived more than 6 months in such and such..."

From Georgia Department of Revenue

What are the filing requirements for a nonresident who works in Georgia and/or has other Georgia source income?

Nonresidents, who work in Georgia or receive income from Georgia sources and are required to file a Federal income tax return, are required to file a Georgia income tax return. Some examples of Georgia source income are wages, Georgia lottery winnings, income from flow through entities (s-corporations, partnerships, LLC’s, trusts, and estates), rents, etc. If you are a legal resident of another state, you are not required to file a Georgia income tax return if your only activity for financial gain or profit in Georgia consists of performing services in Georgia for an employer as an employee when the compensation for services performed does not exceed the lesser of five percent of the income received in all places during the taxable year or $5,000.

That's about all I can do for you there.
