I have lived in the Chattanooga area for 50 years, and know the area well. The comments that there are just a few areas of Red Bank to avoid is understated. The public schools for Red Bank are the worst. The highschool graduate rate is less than 75 percent. Granted the older homes are cute. However, the architecture does not dipict the run down condition of the community, which is widely known as the billboard capital of Chattanooga.

Move to the county, or just across the state line into Catoosa County. I find Ft. Oglethorpe to be a great area. The Catoosa Co. school system is much better than Hamilton Co. or Chattanooga schools.

That is completely a personal opinion and choosing a place to live depends on a ton of factors that cannot be so easily lumped into those three cities. I've heard people say that Red Bank is way too redneck, backwoods and rundown. Some people say East Ridge has too many small homes that are too close together. Some also say East Ridge is a "sea of vinyl" because so many homes are vinyl sided. There are other excellent areas to live in, but it depends on your needs and whether or not you have children and where you plan on working. Hixson is nice, but it is a drive to downtown Chattanooga. I believe it is best to rent for a year, then decide where you want to live.

So sad - I'm a Red Bank graduate, old enough so that at the time it was considered one of the best (if not the best) high school in the county system (well before the school system merger). I guess that decline was a large contributing factor to Signal Mt. getting their new MS/HS (or maybe that's also a cause of the decline?)
