Chattanooga is a great town. I was born and raised there. Now, I live in Lancaster, Pa. and am thinking about moving back home. I wrote a paper last night about the Walnut Street Bridge, for a class, and it has me feeling nostalgic for home.
Like the above posters said about the schools... its all true. I went to Hickory Valley Christian School, and it was a great private school. Not sure how pricey it is now though. Also, I had learning disabilities as a child, and went to the Scenic Land School. It didn't count as a grade year, but they do fantastic theraputic work. Thanks to them, in part, my learning issues are a thing of the past. From there I went back to public school at East Brainerd Elementary, Tyner Middle and Tyner High schools. EB was fine, my parents went to both Tyner's... but, now it is an inner city magnet school. I ended up graduating from Dalton High, in N. Ga. A good public school with a private school feel... well, that was 10 years ago. Now, I even think that school is a little run down and shabby.
My sister went to GPS, and YES very much Harvard prices. The funny thing is, GPS does prepare one for college, but not all of the girls actually make it that far. I know several people in her class who did not graduate from college. So, think hard on that one. If you are Catholic, Notre Dame is a good school, but I think there is a coke problem there...
If your children are into the arts at all, I would highly recommend any of the Arts and Sciences schools or the performing arts school.
I hope this helps! Good luck! And, yes... if you can get over the shell shock, and the red necks that whistle dixie, you're good
Amanda
