Some parts of Hixson are outside the city limits and their taxes are about half of those within the city. (with similar pricing) but you have to pay for trash service.

You may want to look at less pricey place. You can spend way less than 300k and find a nice place. Either way you look at it, tax would be at least double from where you're coming from, right?

Yeah, if you are in the city part of Hixson meaning you pay county and Chattanooga city taxes, your taxes are a lot more. On a house assessed at 135,000 in the city part of Hixson, you will pay somewhere around $1700-$1800/yr., however the taxes for a house over the city line, asessed the same would be around $1000-$1100. So, if you are looking at a $270,000 house, you will be looking at $2000-$2200 vs. $3400-$3600 depending what part of Hixson you are in.

You may really need to look at county if taxes are a big concern. We are currently buying and thought seriously about how big of an issue that was for us, and decided we liked the proximity to downtown, too much to go too far out in Hixson. So, we will pay more, but the house we are buying is not in the range you are talking about, so it is not so bad....Taxes are assessed every 4 years, so if the house you are looking at was just assessed, you will pay their current taxes for a few years...at least that is my understanding from our realtor.

Default taxes

our taxes are based on the 140 we paid for the house which as you know is a good thing lol especially with insurance bieng so high down here. I love the house we are looking at but I also think its too big for us and its overpriced as well , oh well we will be there the first week in july to buy something and we have had a realtor there for two years now I am sure she will be happy! how was your holiday weekend ?
